I will always believe in speaking the truth with love; the times people spoke truth to me without love it broke and hurt me-it added more wounds than healing. I’m not in this world to hurt others, the world already has a lot of that. My part in this world is to spread seeds of love where I stand, and where ever I go.
Everybody is struggling with something, everyone's fighting a battle. So I choose to not become a weapon of destruction for others. After all, our words have impact. There is a reason why people believe in speaking to oneself in certain ways.
Psychologist have shown that what we have been spoken over when we were kids affects our personality and character. If a parent said to his/her child “you are good for nothing”, this will unconsciously shape this kid’s thoughts, behavior, and even how they process information.
I choose to not underestimate people’s pain and struggles; the weight of each person’s cross is determined by their personal background, hope and strength. What may be a storm for some, may be just rain for others; and each one would face their circumstances given their abilities possessed. After all, victory over obstacles differs depending on which window is looked from.
That being said, its not like we should all now walk around on eggshells scared of how others feel; but more so to just to keep in mind that what we say can influence people, and think, “am I being a sower or a ripper?” And if a sower, am I planting seeds of love, oppression, indifference, and/or offense.
I’m a firm believer of caring for people’s heart-and though I have failed doing this at times- I strive to be more consistent at caring and positively sowing, than ripping and negatively influencing. My character is defined by what holds truth in my heart, which results in what comes out of my mouth, and aligns with my actions-not always well read or portrait. But always improving in genuineness. I know it can be difficult for us-humans- to read people’s actions at times, but if we ask questions, hearts will be exposed and we’d understand why they are the way they are.
I know those of us who think like this, also get hurt more than we’d like to; but good lovers are made out of sacrifice, NEVER out of comfort. And that is the price to love and be loved well.
I want learn to love people at their worst -with my actions and also with my kind words- because at their best anyone can. If we all had this mentality, then there would be a lot less people hurting and our world would not be the same. Because being kind is not weakness, it is strength.
This is how I’m the change I want to see in the world...
